Looking back
Monday, 5th March, 2007 - 3:26 pm

Wow, it's been a long time since I last looked at this. As I said in my first ever post, this blog was made for coursework, so after the 4th December post I just abandoned it (I'm not a blog person by nature). Still, over a year later I've found it again and I might as well put it on the internet properly. Who knows, I might even make the comments actually work some time, just for the sake of it.

Well since I said I'd write some more in this post, however long ago that promise was made, I'll have a go;

Today is a PD day (woo! 3 day weekend). That means that this week, I only have to go in for 2½ days, which is nice. The feeling's lessened a bit by the looming exam results day. If I do badly, it's no big deal - I just re-take the exams in June, but what I'm worried about is if I'm the only one who has to re-take a module. That would be bad. Very bad.
Oh and I passed my driving test. Which is good.

In other news, well there isn't any. Bye!

One more day to go... then another, and another...
Monday, 5th December, 2005 - 6:33 pm

There's still weeks of school left, and just to rub salt into the wound, my bro, who's still in secondary school at Ercall Wood, gets to leave 3 days before me...

I got a mock exam result today; B in the chemistry test from last thursday. I was two marks off an A too! But I found somewhere where I should have got a mark, but didn't. Then there was another, so my mark was raised and I scraped an A! Best not to rely on that for the real exams though. I think I'll do some revision over the holl's.

Looking back at this blog, I can see that each entry is getting progressively shorter... I'll try to write more next time.

QWERTY
Sunday, 4th December, 2005 - 9:27 pm

If you don't know what those letters mean, please stop reading now. Or just look down slightly at the thing in front of you. The thing that's covered in buttons.
Anyway, this number: 8,549,176,320 was on some TV program my dad saw, so he decided to challenge me with it: what's special about it? It took me ages, then he gave me a clue, and it took me a few seconds. Most people reading this could probably get it pretty quick even without the clue though.

If you want the clue, select this text: The 0 is not nought, it's zero

Recon you can do it?

Time's curved, folded and probably looks like origami
Saturday, 3rd December, 2005 - 11:09 pm

Today, I woke up early. That must be the first time in over 4 months. Of course, early is 8 am in this case, as opposed to 11 am which is usual for a saturday.
And yet, before I knew what had happened, it was 4 pm. Well, ok, that's just over half way through the day, I thought, so it's not too bad. It then took at least three hours to reach 5 pm, yet after 5pm, it was only a few minutes until 10 pm, then just a little longer to reach 11.
I imagine that if you looked at my day from a four dimensional thing's point of view, it'd look sort of like an origami swan. Done badly.
So I haven't done much today, other than decide that time is a right pain, and that a lot of time is a headache. Especially if it all decides to pass in the same 5 minutes.

Maths, don't talk to me about maths...
Friday, 2nd December, 2005 - 5:46 pm

Today was Friday. That means double maths = maths ALL DAY.
Now, I quite like maths, mostly, and find it interesting. mostly. But today, a large part of the lesson was spent showing us how to count in 3's and 4's. In fact, it took me a lot of effort to avoid asking if the curriculum had got mixed up with the year 9's work. And I can't have been the only one who thought this. Still, it wasn't all bad. Once the teacher was satisfied that we knew how to count (this took about half an hour), we went into a bit more depth. Still wasn't very interesting though, and I went home feeling as though my head had been filled with putty. And a lot of homework.
I've also found out that as of January next year, I'm going to be having double maths on Wednesday too. yay. Still, on the plus side, I don't have to come into school at all on thursday morning while this is going on, so I get to stay in bed (When I was young, I thought being tired at 7am was what happened to old people. So I guess I must be old now)

I never understood titles
Thursday, 1st December, 2005 - 5:37 pm

They say you should never judge a book by it's cover. Of course, "they" also said cigarettes were healthy. But I think they were right about the book comment. And yet we rely on covers and titles to decide what books are about all the time. There are millions, maybe billions of books and articles, and each one has to have it's own title. Several hundred pages representing the past 20 years of the authors life have to be condensed into 4-7 words that can fit on to a small square of paper.
Well I find that strange anyway.

So what brought on this philosophical thought? Quite simply that I'm looking for a book to read, to avoid my brain turning into clotted cheese, and I can't find anything. Maybe I'll have more success next time I look.

In other news, the mock exams have started. And the real ones aren't far off.

Disbelief!!!
Wednesday, 29th November, 2005 - 5:54 pm

Today, I saw a notice on the school messages. Not unusual, there are often many messages cycling round in a mix of seemingly pointless animations. But, this one had an exclamation mark. Actually, more than that; one exclamation mark is ok. I can understand one. It means "I really mean this" or "I'm shocked". The problem I have is with two. What does that mean? "I really mean it when I say I really mean this"? "I'm shocked at my shock"? "I mean this, and just in case you missed that, I MEAN THIS"? See my point? It seems like it's insulting the intelligence of the reader... So maybe you can understand why I was annoyed when I saw three exclamation marks?

In fact, something that annoyed me even more was that my friend couldn't see what was wrong with it. He thought it was perfectly normal to use multiple exclamation marks. What a strange world we live in, don't you think?
Over-use of rhetorical questions also gets on my nerves.

Ok, I promise to stop ranting now.

The power failures from yesterday are still happening. One apparently happened while some visitors were being shown the computer system, but I don't think they minded. All the snow's gone too, leaving just the cold behind.

A white christmas?
Tuesday, 28th November, 2005 - 9:31 pm

Today, it snowed. Then it stopped, and all the snow melted. Then it snowed again, just for the sake of it. But melted. But then, it snowed. Huge chunks of fluffy ice drifting down in their millions coating everything in white. So much snow, in fact, that after a minute the power went off. Ah, the computer doesn't seem to like having the power off. Right, now I've got to re-write all that... *grumbles*
Well, actually, I haven't. Because the power round here is fine. The snow that flooded the school by several inches and caused large-scale power failures never reached here, where the ground is lower. Everything just looks cold.
Apparently, near the school they often get white christmases, since it's high up, and gets more snow. The last white christmas I remember was... well, I can't. Of course, It's kind of a trivial thing; whether cold rain falls on a particular day decided as the anniversary for some christian story, but it would still be nice to see...

A blog? hmm...
Tuesday, 28th November, 2005 - 9:42 am

Right, as part of my ICT, I've got to keep this blog going. Dunno exactly why, but never mind, eh?

First thing, hi, I'm David, an A level student at Thomas Telford. I'm basically a dull person, and I spend most of my time in front of a computer (like now). I have no religion, and don't plan to get one. You may have guessed from this page that I'm interested in graphic design, though I'm not very good at it (yet) I also do a lot of programming, web design and stuff like that; as I said before, I don't leave the computer much :P

I seriously doubt I'll keep this blog going for very long, but we'll see... I'll try to put up a proper entry later today too.
